- Does it work on a phone?
- Our browser opens your home page at a phone's size. We check it is set for phones, that nothing is wider than the screen, and that your phone number and email address can be tapped. Most people see your site on a phone first.
- Can Google find you?
- Page titles, search descriptions and main headings, your sitemap and the file that tells search engines what they may read, and anything that tells Google to stay away. Your business name and address in the page code, the preview a link to your site shows when it is shared, and the icon on its tab.
- Is it quick to load on a phone?
- Google's timings from real visitors to your site, where it has enough of them, and the weight of the pictures on each page.
- Are the legal basics there?
- Privacy, terms and cookie pages. We open your home page and see which cookies arrive before anyone clicks. Then we press Reject on your cookie banner, to see whether tracking waits for a yes. Pictures without descriptions, and other rules that help people who use screen readers.
- Is it safe?
- A secure connection, a valid certificate and the date it runs out, no insecure parts, and the five security settings that stop common attacks on your visitors. Every form of your address, with and without www, ending on the secure one. When your domain runs out, and whether your email settings stop others sending email as you. Whether you could take your site with you if you left.
- Is anything broken?
- Pages that fail to open, up to 30 links that lead nowhere, and any form of your address that fails.
We only read the pages anyone can see. We keep a short log of each check: the address, when it ran and how many things it found to fix. We never ask for your email, and to stop misuse we keep only a scrambled form of your internet address, for no more than two days. The link to your report simply checks again. Each problem shows its page and what we measured, and is marked Fix first or Fix soon.
